Deze erkenning is een bewijs van de veerkracht van het land en de warmte van de mensen, die reizigers met open armen ontvangen.<\/p>\n<h2>Nederlands Erfgoed in Sri Lanka: De VOC-Geschiedenis<\/h2>\n<p>De Nederlandse aanwezigheid op het eiland begon toen de VOC de Portugezen verdreef, die de kuststeden bezetten. De Nederlanders namen de controle over van de lucratieve handel in kaneel en andere specerijen en bouwden indrukwekkende forten om hun belangen te beschermen. meest prominente herinnering aan de Nederlandse geschiedenis is ongetwijfeld Galle Fort. Dit UNESCO-Werelderfgoed is een must-see voor elke bezoeker. Gebouwd door de Portugezen in de 16e eeuw, werd het fort in de 17e eeuw uitgebreid en versterkt door de Nederlanders. Hier zie je perfect de Galle Fort Nederlandse architectuur. De smalle, geplaveide straatjes zijn omzoomd met charmante herenhuizen met pilaren, dakpannen en gevels die rechtstreeks uit een Hollandse stad lijken te komen.<\/p>\n<p>Wandel over de oude stadsmuren, geniet van de zonsondergang over de Indische Oceaan en verken de vele boetieks en caf\u00e9s die in de gerestaureerde Nederlandse gebouwen zijn gevestigd. Bezoek ook het Nederlandse hervormde kerkje, met zijn prachtige houten vloeren en grafstenen met Nederlandse namen.
