Sports Tours to Sri Lanka for Schools and Clubs

Silk Way Ceylon Tours arranges sports tours for schools and clubs across Sri Lanka, organizing fixtures, coaching and full logistics for school football tours, school rugby tours, school netball tours and hockey, alongside wildlife safaris and cultural excursions on the same trip.

Silk Way Ceylon Tours: Your Trusted Partner for Sports Tours to Sri Lanka

Are you organizing sports tours for schools or clubs and looking for a destination where your team will genuinely be welcomed? Sri Lanka is home to a rich, multi-sport culture — rugby, netball, football, hockey and cricket are all played competitively at school level across the island — which makes it an outstanding setting for a touring squad. As an established school sports tour company, Silk Way Ceylon Tours designs full sports travel packages that combine competitive fixtures with the culture, wildlife and beaches that make Sri Lanka worth the flight.

Sri Lanka’s own appeal helps make the case for a touring party — the island was named one of the 50 Best Places to Travel for 2026, giving every squad plenty to explore between matches.

Sport by Sport: What We Arrange

  • School football tours: fixtures against local school and club sides, with football growing fast in popularity across the island and plenty of strong, competitive opposition available.
  • School rugby tours: Sri Lanka has one of Asia’s largest rugby-playing populations, with a school rugby tradition stretching back over a century — touring sides get a genuinely competitive game, not just a friendly.
  • School netball tours: netball has been played in Sri Lankan schools since the 1920s, and remains one of the country’s strongest women’s sports, with a deep pool of school-level opposition.
  • Hockey tours for schools: growing school-level competition, with fixtures available across Colombo and the wider region for touring hockey squads.

Combine Sports on One School Multi-Sport Tour

Many of our touring schools run a school multi sports tour rather than focusing on a single game — mixing football, netball, rugby or hockey fixtures across the same trip so a wider group of students gets a competitive match. If cricket is part of your programme too, we can fold in cricket tours for schools  alongside your other sports.

What to Consider When Planning a School Sports Tour to Sri Lanka

The main things to settle early are your travel dates against Sri Lanka’s December–April dry season, the sport or sports you want fixtures in, squad size and age range, and how much cultural or leisure time you want built around the matches. Once those are set, we handle fixtures, transport, accommodation and match-day logistics from there.

Several touring schools also add on an educational tour of Sri Lanka  alongside their sports fixtures, for a trip that balances competition with cultural learning. You can read how this played out for a recent group in our tour report on a school cricket group from Pakistan .

Most school sports tours run best during Sri Lanka’s December–April dry season, which also lines up conveniently with many school terms and half-term windows.
Yes — all visitors need an Electronic Travel Authorization (ETA) before arrival, applied for online. As of May 2026, tourist ETAs are free for 30 days for travellers from the UK, Australia and several other countries; we guide touring groups through the requirement for their specific nationality.
